My Own Special Spot

My Students

Being a teacher in an elementary school is my dream job. I love having the opportunity to work with a variety of children everyday. I am the teacher in a 1st grade classroom. My job is immensely rewarding yet it comes with many challenges.

My students are caring, funny and creative.

They come to school everyday ready to work. They have a positive attitude and are ready to smash 1st grade.

I have noticed however many students this year are having a tough time with everyday social and emotional skills. I use calming strategies and fidget tools daily. I am trying to offer more choices for seating and work stations to keep students attention. I have also noticed that I have more students that are struggling academically than ever before.

My Project

I want my student to have choices about the chairs they sit on during the day. I believe ball chairs would give students a fun way to sit at their desk while being able to incorporate some movement. Giving students choices is very important to me.

I love teaching at the rug, this experience is one of the best parts of teaching younger grades.

I would love to have a carpet that would give each student a designated spot to sit. I have many students this year who struggle with personal space issues. Having their own special spot on the rug will help them learn personal boundaries and appropriate behavior while being taught away from their desks.

Finally, I would like to offer my student some new books about social and emotional well being. My students love picture books!
