Help me give my students engaging lessons as it is a key factor in our learning environment and has a significant impact on their motivation and effort to make them successful!
I work in a Title I school which has a growing Hispanic and Burmese population. I have a diverse and wonderful classroom of 22-second graders. Twelve of my 22 students speak limited English and 4 students speak no English. I have 2 students who have special needs. I love them all! They are doing their lesson from home with limited help from their families as their parents do not speak English.
My Project
I am reminded daily of the limited access my students have to learning opportunities while we have been home. The students come from hard-working families and they work hard every day to overcome the many obstacles in their lives. They need someone who cares about THEM and their learning.
I have children who are just learning our English language and I also have students who are struggling learners for various reasons.
They come from families who are unable to support them with educational needs as many have lost their jobs during this time or may not speak English.
I am teaching lessons over our Classroom Zoom Meetings. Making At-Home Learning work from home is challenging. I do not have all the materials I need to replicate what I do in the classroom. Many of my children do not have access to computers but most can use their parent's phone to do Classroom Zoom meetings. I do daily math activities where they need to see the problem clearly. Having a whiteboard with magnet numbers will help me do this effectively. In my classroom, we would start with a read aloud, so having the books where I read to them instead of watching a video will start our lessons with more participation. Using magnetic letters will help with phonics as it will easier to change letters to make new words. Having the items listed, I will be able to set up an effective virtual learning environment in my home and make it easier to teach my lessons.
