My Most Requested Books, or I'll Die If I Can't Read This!

My students need copies of 23 great books, including titles from popular series such as "The Spiderwick Chronicles", "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and "Babymouse".

As the librarian in an urban public elementary school, I am delighted when my students are excited about books--and I'm fortunate to work in a school where my students love to read.

Students come to me often to request specific book titles. Perhaps they've read another book by the author...perhaps they have read the first book in the series and would like the next. Perhaps they've just heard about the book from a friend. I would love to be able to fill all of the book requests that I get, but I don't have a budget to buy new books.

I hate to disappoint my students, so I'm asking for help. This proposal covers some of the most requested books in my library. These books are the titles and subjects that I'm asked for all the time...but cannot buy on my own. My students check books out to take them home, so these books will benefit them both in school and at home. Some students in my school do not have access to other books at home; those they check out from the school library may be the only books they read.

I've learned from experience that when I tell a student that I've received a book he or she has been asking for, there is jumping up and down, squealing and best of all, a look of utter joy on his or her face. These kids truly appreciate books, and with your help I can see those looks of joy again very soon. By fulfilling this proposal, you will make it possible for my students to read great books that they're interested in. This will help increase their reading skills and help the students continue their love of reading.
