My Mental Health Is Important During Distance Learning!

My Students

I am a school social worker in an elementary school. A number of students come from a background of extensive traumatic experiences. As a school social worker, I provide social emotional support to students who are Pre-K 3 through 5th grade.

My goal is to continue to be in contact with my students virtually, but also providing fun mental breaks through board games, cards, arts and crafts and reading.

I want to continue to support students in their social emotional development while they are practicing distance learning due to the precautionary measures put in place due to the Coronavirus.

While overall academic support and distance learning is important, we must not forget about mental health and wellness.

Incorporating multiple breaks are important and help to reduce anxiety and frustration. These activities can also serve as a learning tool. Studies show that people with strong social emotional skills and overall well-being are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, socially and professionally.

My Project

Incorporating multiple breaks are important and help to reduce anxiety and frustration, especially during a time of uncertainty. Board games, books, and other activities can increase relationship building with parents and siblings. Learning to work together as a team enhances communication and teaches turn-taking (decreases impulsive behaviors).

Studies show that people with strong social-emotional skills and overall well-being are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, socially and professionally.

With the requested supplies, I believe that my students will be motivated and better equipped to accept academic challenges and complete them with less frustration and anxiety.
