This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I began teaching 24 years ago and taught 5th grade. Then 10 yrs ago switched and began teaching Social Studies to 1st through 5th graders. TODAY (Aug 25th), I found out that I am teaching REMOTELY to FIRST GRADE - Teaching ALL subjects!!!
I'm even teaching my former 5th grade students' children!
My picture shows a former 5th grade class of mine. I'm now a multi-generational teacher. I try to have innovative materials to work with my diverse population however I have NO materials to teach reading, writing and math. Scary prospect!
My Project
I plan on having morning meetings. To that end, an easel and a morning message chart which will discuss weather, feelings, the letter of the day, the sounds of that letter (phonics are oh so necessary) and much more will help immensely.
Giving my first graders the opportunity to journal their feelings about not being in school & seeing me always on screen can help connect us during this time.
The easel can also be converted to hold my chart paper for later reading, writing and math lessons later in the day.
