My students have worked so hard this year. It is my 1st year at a Title I urban school in East TN. Most of my students are on free lunch and don't come from very much at all.
In our class, we use a token economy system called "SpendAubles".
It is a play on my last name. Whenever a student participates, is active in class, does well on his or her work, and is generally a good student they are rewarded with classroom bucks.
With these bucks, students can go to our class store and purchase items such as Little Debbie snack cakes, chips, candy, fidget toys, and drinks, My main goal is for my students to feel loved, comfortable and feel and be safe. That is my highest goal - Maslow before Bloom!

One of the biggest ways to connect with my students is to fill their bellies. When their belly is full they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we as their teachers care about their well-being and they feel safe and comfortable learning in my classroom.
