Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When people find out that I teach Kindergarten, the most common response is, "I could NEVER do that," but if they spent a year in my shoes, they would know how truly lucky I am. Everyday I come to a classroom full of students who are curious and excited to learn. In Kinder, we learn to communicate, coping strategies, real world skills, and we begin our journey as life long learners.
My students come in not knowing how to spell their names or put on their jackets, but they leave as readers, writes, and seekers of knowledge.
Nothing compares to the look a student gives you when they realize they have read their first book, or when a student who used to struggle with behavior, becomes a class leader. These kids are so special, and I am so grateful that I get to help them grow.
My Project
All of the headphones in my classroom are broken. The school provides us with five pairs of headphones at the beginning of the year, but they are not the correct size for the students and quickly fell apart. In addition, I have tried purchasing earbuds, but they do not fit their ears. I am in desperate need of headphones that can survive a kindergartner.
As a teacher in a title one school, many of my students do not even have crayons at home.
Therefore, I don't feel comfortable asking parents to send in headphones. The students need headphones to be able to work independently without distractions.
