Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I will sponsor a team of enthusiastic fifth graders that are new to FIRST® LEGO® League robotics competitions. My diverse group of students come from low income or middle-class families, yet they are very aware of the technological advances of the world. We are a small district in a small town. We are grateful for what we have, but students expect more and they are getting it with the addition of robotics!

FIRST® LEGO® League robotics creates enthusiasm about science and technology, equips participants with a team spirit attitude, and encourages them to solve complex tasks in creative ways!

My students are ready to gain valuable experiences in technology, work together, and learn about the world around them.

My Project

STEM education with an emphasis on robotics within real-life scenarios encourages students to see their place in the world in relation to the benefits of technology. My school will sponsor a fifth-grade competitive robotics team composed of a variety of students including females and minorities. We will meet over the course of 7 months to learn how to apply robotics knowledge in order to solve problems in a collaborative environment.

A laptop computer will provide my students with the opportunity to learn and compete alongside fellow STEM students as they research a real-world challenge, create presentations to share with the community, and program their robots to perform various autonomous missions on a playing field.

A laptop computer will allow our Mustang Robotics team to meet in various locations throughout our time together. Whether we are in the robotics room researching and programming or refining our robot's ability to complete a task during an out of town competition, we will have the freedom to choose the space best suited for our needs. Robotics will inspire my students to believe in their capabilities as learners and encourage them to seek further knowledge within STEM education.
