This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Welcome to Mr. Lankford's Zoology class! This year, my students are excited to learn about the animal kingdom through hands on exploration and dissections! Sometimes it's gross and weird, but there is no better way to learn about animals than to check out what's going on inside.
My Zoology students are joyful and excited about practicing the very same observational techniques used around the world to drive scientific discovery in their own classroom!
Through hands on science we are exploring the world around us, and having lots of fun as we do!
My Project
By having mussel dissection kits, students will be able to get an up close look at the characteristics of the phylum Mollusca!
Dissecting mussels is a fun challenge for novice dissectors, and they provide an excellent means of honing dissection technique while learning the anatomy of some of earth's clammiest creatures!
In addition to the mussel kit, having Earthworms to dissect is an easy way to experience just how complex those creepy crawlies can actually be. Diverse dissection labs are the best way to a holistic and comprehensive understanding of the biodiversity of life on Earth!
(And a Planet Earth set, just to drive that last point home.) :)
