Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my school love music class. Their favorite lessons are the ones in which the kids are able to use instruments. We are a Title I school with over 80% of our students economically disadvantaged. Because of their low-income, I'd like to be able to give them as many hands on experiences as possible.
60% of my students dealt with flood damage during Harvey last year.
Even though they have been through so much they always seem to come to school with a smile and a positive attitude.
My Project
I have chosen instruments that will be easily accessible to all students to be able to play and enjoy. I have also chosen some games that will be able to reinforce what the students have learned in a fun and memorable way.
These materials will place more instruments and fun activities in the hands of deserving students who have struggled so much in the last year due to Hurricane Harvey.
My students will use the percussion instruments to learn and practice rhythms. The games will be used to reinforce concepts that they have already learned in a fun and memorable way. The requested items will be used to make STEM to STEAM connections through music concepts and objective related to the science of sound and related to mathematics in relation to rhythm and note values.
