My students need music to learn. Flocabulary, is an online resource of engaging rap songs that cover content. I also need an I-Phone docking speaker so I can launch lessons with music.

My Students

My 5th Grade English Language Arts (ELA) students live in a world of technology. They are used to instant access to anything. In order to engage them so they can learn, they need to feel excited about their learning. When they are excited about learning, and learning is fun, amazing things happen.

My students come from a wide variety of cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds and often have individualized academic needs.

I have students who are gifted and need to be challenged. I have students who can stay hidden, if not challenged, and I have students who require extra help in the classroom.

My Project

Flocabulary is an amazing online digital resource that provides unique rap like lyrics and songs with videos to teach many concepts such as theme in literature and even social studies content such as the causes of the American Revolution. The program even includes resource materials that can be used in small group instruction. Flocabulary videos are a great way to launch a lesson.

Imagine: David Bowie's "Space Oddity" engaging 5th graders when learning about space.

It happens in my classroom! I find many uses for music, but I'm unable to use a bluetooth stereo in my room to access my Apple Music. I often have to walk around the room holding my I-Phone so my students can hear the music (making it not as engaging). An I-Phone docking stereo would change all that!
