Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at QES are a very diverse group. We have many economically disadvantaged students and students with limited English proficiency. All of the students are eligible for free lunch and many take advantage of food donations provided for non-school days. Despite this, they come to school daily, eager to learn and eager to improve. Physical Education is a vital part of student success. Being active, learning healthy habits, and developing coping skills are essential and transfer to classroom success. Students grow socially and emotionally as well with a constant emphasis on skills to help them persevere on a daily basis. A strong physical education program helps improve students’ academic success.

My Project

The importance of physical activity is very well documented. There are the obvious physical health benefits, but additionally physical activity brings about many social emotional benefits as well.

The pandemic resulted in at home learning, canceling of youth sports, and many other lost opportunities for kids to be active.

Now that we are back at school it is so important to help kids be active as much as possible while still being Covid safe.

Music is a great tool to help with this. Kids move more when there is music playing. Having a speaker with the ability to play music loudly will help me be able to spread kids out more keeping them safe while still allowing them to take part in the activities.

Kids, just like adults, are anxious about what is going on. I can see the stress relief students have when they come down to Physical Education class and get a chance to be active. Please help me foster this activity in a safe way.
