This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

According to my students, the music room is the one place that they feel like they belong in the most - more so than being at home. Although they would say it in a joking manner, I have come to realize that their desire and motivation to be in the music classes provided them with a deep sense of community where all the "doing" and the "making" things together makes belonging matter.

The skills, discipline and responsibilities that I teach through this music class are designed to help students realize their ability and desire to contribute in various and meaningful ways within an organization.

In our music program, music and dance are used to remind the students of their value and worth because each and every member plays a crucial role in the success of their program. Although we compete against schools with more resources, our students stay humble, motivated, and hungry for opportunities to better themselves.

My Project

This course will focus on music technology and music industry aspects so that students can better understand how music is created, produced, recorded, and mixed as well as ways that it is marketed and used in films, television, videos and advertisements. Some projects and course work for this class will require active listening to music and aspects of music production.

Many students enrolled in these classes are not able to afford quality headphones that are needed to be able to properly hear high quality sounds that are standard in the industry and to encourage a possible career in sound engineering.
