This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Part of running a successful music program is making sure students have all the necessary supplies to play their instruments. We are fundraising for essential supplies for our instruments: reeds for our wind instruments and strings for our string instruments. Without these supplies, it is not possible to even play the instruments, as if a student's reed breaks, you can't produce a sound, and if a string breaks, there is no string to play on.

In order for students to play their instrument successfully and improve, their supplies must be in full working condition, and not cause a hindrance to their development on the instrument.

Even unbroken reeds and strings need to changed regularly in order for the students to play with proper tone quality and play in tune. With a program of 200 students, it is an expensive endeavor to keep all of their instruments and supplies in top shape and readily available when needed. If we don't have them, students can miss several days of playing their instrument.

Our music classes are every single day for about 55 minutes and our students are incredibly motivated. It is a joy to see them working hard day in and day out to perfect the music we rehearse and be able to perform it in a concert. The music classes create a fun and social environment for the students, where they can work on a creative and life long skill of playing music with others.
