Enthusiastic, excited faces greet me every morning. It always makes me smile, and it is my goal to make them feel safe, important, and eager to learn. Providing my students with an outlet to explore the arts is a drive and privilege for me. I strive to give all of my students opportunities to explore and expand their creativity in all ways possible.
Teaching in a low-income school can be a challenge.
The children are faced with many obstacles in and out of the classroom. Many of the children do not have the same experiences or same opportunities as other children do due to instability in their lives.
My Project
The minute my students hear music, they rush to the instruments and scarves in our classroom to enhance their musical experience. When our clean-up song comes on, the students are dancing around the room as they are cleaning. Music and movement is a gigantic part of my students' daily life.
Unfortunately, our instruments have been well used, so my students are not getting the full musical experience with these materials.
My students come from many different backgrounds and having these multicultural instruments and CDs will be an incredible connection for my students. With the winter months here, we will be spending more time indoors, so these instruments and CDs will be an enriching and exciting addition to our movement activities and lessons.
Music is an activity that enhances my students gross motor, fine motor, mathematics, literacy and social-emotional development.
The egg shakers and rhythm sticks will help my students develop stronger fine motor and mathematics skills through their counting, following beats, and following patterns
The musical spoons, sounds of nature set, rainmaker, wooden cabasa, two-toned block and musical washboard will provide my students with a new and unique outlook on musical arts.
The maracas and sand blocks will update some of the most loved instruments in my classroom now.
The “Kidz Bop” CDs will provide my students with developmentally appropriate and fun music to dance and move to.
The “Sing Along” and “Alpha Bop” CDs will contribute to my students' developing literacy knowledge, including letter recognition and phonological awareness.
The “Instruments from Around the World Collection” and “The Children of the World” CD will help us celebrate the diversity in our classroom through lively songs and new instruments. My classroom is a melting pot of cultures and I look forward to helping my students strengthen their connection to their cultures.
