If we teach our children music, we teach them the only universal language spoken all over the world. I am a first year educator. Last year I was hired to begin a choral music program in a school with no musical program and no musical supplies. I submitted a proposal to develop and expand an actual music program. Administrators, parents, community leaders, and students were impressed with our quick progress. As a result, I found the support I needed to facilitate expansion. A successful music program can reshape the lives and experiences of a child. In our community students are not given the invaluable experience of learning to play a musical instrument or given the exposure to various types of music. If our music program is successfully implemented, we will give our students an opportunity to learn the only language spoken the same all around the world.
Last year we surveyed our students to see what type programs they were interested in. A large percentage of students were interested in music (both instrumental and vocal). We began our choral programs without the resources to do classical pieces with sheet music. We are excited about starting our instrumental programs with the introduction of the drum line. It took a lot of work for us to obtain funding to purchase a Yamaha Marching Percussion Line. After the line was purchased we did not have enough available funds to purchase additional supplies. We were fortunate enough to get sheet music, drums, sticks, carriers, and cases but now we need music stands to help us with efficient and effective rehearsals.
Our students are about to experience an opportunity that has never been offered before. We fought very hard to retrieve the funding for a top-of-the-line marching percussion line, sheet music, and staff. We now need your help to purchase 12 music stands that will help our students see and read their music while learning new songs.
