This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love music and have a great time. Most of them do not have access to any type of technology unless they are at school. I would love to use iPads to build their self-esteem and love for music by creating our own musical compositions.

My school is a Title 1 school located in a very small town in central Florida.

90% of the students that attend here are on free or reduced price lunch. We have a large Hispanic population so language barriers are often prevalent. Music is a universal language, which reveals why my students love my class so much. Many of my students have difficult home lives and find peace and safety at school. A large amount of students eat meals only while they are at school. They have limited background knowledge of technology and need more exposure if they are going to be successful students in this day and age. The students have a love of learning and thirst for new knowledge.

My Project

I will be teaching my students how to use the iPads to create their own music by recording themselves. I will introduce the students to games that will increase their level of understanding of music genres, instrument families, theory, rhythm, steady beat, tempo and dynamics. I am hoping that we can purchase GarageBand for the iPads, which will open up new doors for the my older students. GarageBand will assist them in learning about several instruments and how to play them.

Donations will be used to purchase iPads.

Just using this technology will benefit every student. They will be exposed to something they do not readily have access to. In doing this we are preparing them for future success in their education while helping to increase their level of confidence in the area of technology. I also feel that using the iPads will give them a sense of accomplishment and improve the overall self-esteem of my students.
