Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My special needs students are in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. They express a desire to learn and be successful in life. The majority of them come from low socioeconomic households and they receive free or reduced lunch while at school. Academically, they are in the lowest 25% of their grade level. Too many are faced with various challenges and obstacles in their everyday lives, yet, these students attend school daily and focus on their education.
"Special needs" is not a roadblock to success, it's perseverance that will not quit.
My students have dreams and goals and it is my job to effectively prepare them for the future. In order to do this, the availability of resources is essential. Please help me bring this technology combined with music into my classroom so that these children can succeed.
My Project
Rhythm, counting, patterns, time, and symbols are connected to music and mathematics. Research has shown that when music and mathematics are combined, there is greater academic achievement and success. The goal of my project is to integrate music with math instruction. For my special students, who love to listen to music, an Apple iPad is friendly to use and easy to navigate.
With an iPad as a new teaching and learning tool, I will be able to teach math skills with music by accessing Maths Rockx, BrainPop, and Flocabulary.
My students will be able reinforce various math skills by accessing educational apps such as DreamBox Math for iPad, SkyNumbers, Math Doodles, and Puzzle 10. With the Scratch Jazz app, my students will be able to use this basic coding platform to create their own music. The Apple iPad device and the vast number of musical and mathematics apps available, will bridge the gap that exists for my students in the way they access and achieve acaemic success.
An iPad will help my students bridge their unique learning gaps by giving each student an alternative option for learning, and working at their own pace. This will benefit all learners regardless of their academic level and needs. An iPad will give them instant feedback and provide motivation for learning.
