Music Makes the World Go Round!

Help me give my students this beautiful soprano xylophone, to help increase the size of our instrumentarium and allow students to be more socially distanced and independent as they learn to play music!

My Students

My students are enthusiastic about music and love to sing and play musical games and do activities. Most of them do not know how to play instruments when they come to school, and looking around the room at the various instruments just amazes them. Many cannot afford to rent or buy one at home, and music class is their only opportunity to get hands-on with music!

Currently, I have about 8 classroom instruments (Orff-style, with mallets), which means that kids are crowded in groups of 3 around each instrument.

Most of them are old and have bars missing or pieces breaking off. I would love to slowly increase my collection of instruments so that someday I have enough for each kid to have his own, or at least have only two at each one!

My Project

Students will learn the basics of rhythm, melody, harmony, playing in an ensemble, and music appreciation as they partake in group performances on Orff-style instruments in the classroom. Currently using older, broken instruments, and crammed two or three to an instrument, they have a hard time improvising and expressing themselves creatively in their over-crowded classrooms. It is also exceedingly hard to maintain social distancing in this time of Covid, as they take turns sharing instruments and mallets and stop every few minutes to sanitize their hands. Help us increase our instrument collection so that each child may someday have his or her own instrument to use in class!
