This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand.” – Chinese proverb.

I teach enthusiastic, engaging, and energetic four-year-old learners in a collaborative (general education and special education) Expanded Transitional Kindergarten (pre-k) in a large, urban, 100% Title I, Los Angeles school.

We spend our day actively learning through play and hands-on experiences. Our classroom provides students with opportunities to develop their social skills and the foundation for academic learning. We have a diverse range of abilities and work together to foster an inclusive community.

My Project

My students sing and dance daily. Music is an integral part of our classroom curriculum. It facilitates emotional, intellectual, and social development, as well as provide an outlet for creativity and self expression. Music provides an opportunity for all students to participate and feel successful.

Boomwhackers are the perfect tool for teaching young children music concepts such as pitch and tempo.

They are plastic tubes that children strike to produce different tones and sounds. Boomwhackers can be used to play music in a group or individually. It is a wonderful percussion instrument all students can use to successfully explore and create beautiful music.
