My Project

The Music Jam Zone in my library is heavily used by students every day. They work together at lunch time in music jam sessions or alone at other times practicing their own music skills and generally enjoying the guitars, drums and other items that can be found there. Music enhances life in so many ways. Not only educationally, but also emotionally and through community.

There are not adequate words to express how much our music jam zone has meant to our students.

Sadly, our 10 year old piano keyboard has reached the end of its life, and we are hoping the DC community will help us replace it. The entire Maker Movement is about bringing kids back to the process of designing, experimenting, trying, failing, making adjustments, and trying again until they succeed. They will not be successful as adults if they cannot reflect, examine, and change course to solve problems. Those are vital life skills that we libraries are trying to support within our educational system through maker spaces-- and the keyboard I am requesting is an integral part of our maker culture. Will you help us replace it? Thanks for considering this grant!
