This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember being in elementary school and learning about music? My students have not yet experienced holding instruments in their hands and playing to the rhythms and tempos.

My students are fourth grade students in a Title I school in California.

They enjoy learning, but they also know that there is more to learning than just reading out of a book or watching a video on subject matter. They would like to add to their experiences so that when they read about it they have the experience and background knowledge needed to understand.

My Project

The majority of my students have never held musical instruments in their hands. Unfortunately their parents don't have the means or resources to place them in music classes. By holding the instruments in their hands and keeping up with the music they will better understand rhythms and tempos. My students will be more well-rounded just by having this one more experience in their education. Students will learn about tempos and how to play to different rhythms from different cultures. Students will be encouraged to play the musical instruments for their parents at Open House.

This might be the only chance my students have to hold musical instruments in their hands.

We want our students/children to receive as many experiences possible from their education. As educators our job is to inspire our students and why not inspire them through music.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
