Music in the Classroom: Learning Through Movement!

Help me give my students musical instruments to sing, play, and learn literacy skills with, architect blocks for cooperative building, and a literacy cart to make classroom books easily accessible.

My Students

My kindergarten students are amazing little minds from all ethnic, social, and developmental backgrounds. They are bright, diverse, and eager to learn and interact with the world around them.

In my inclusion kindergarten classroom we are busy as we explore reading, writing, and social development.

We love to move our bodies and get up and dance! I incorporate music and movement into many aspects of our day with my ukulele. We like to write songs and put them to music, which builds literacy skills. My students each bring a range of diverse knowledge to our classroom, and there is not a day that goes by that we are not learning something exciting about the world or each other. My classroom is in Lowell, MA., which has a high poverty rate and where all students receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite our diverse backgrounds, we all work together to create a warm and loving classroom that will foster a love of learning from the first day of school!

My Project

My kindergarten students learn best when movement is a part of their day. Music in the classroom can promote literacy and social emotional skills. We play lots of movement games when learning our letters and numbers! By making learning to read fun and filled with songs, poems, and movement, my students thrive. I would like to incorporate classroom instruments into our movement games and songs to increase the learning, and the fun! In addition, I am seeking a literacy cart to organize our leveled readers and make them more accessible to my students when choosing books.

Please help me create a classroom rich in literacy and music so we can dance, sing, play, and move our way into reading!
