My Students
Our Title I school has many students that don't have access to music outside of the classroom. All of the teachers and administrators at our school are so dedicated to providing a great educational experience for those communities that encounter increased levels of poverty, hatred, and xenophobia.
The very fact that we have a full-time music teacher is a testament to my school's commitment to integrated arts.
We have found the importance in music as a discipline and it's positive effects on every other subject. Our school is located in the heart of the Mission in San Francisco and we are working hard to preserve the legacy of the Latino experience in the city that is quickly becoming gentrified.
My Project
In my class, we have a full set of xylophones, glockenspiels, and metallophones and all of my students have access to play them. What we need is good curriculum that is engaging to the students and fun to play. This project will allow us access to tested and proven curriculum for learning and performance.
Also on our list of wanted items are educational music posters and a reusable dry erase music staff chart for writing music notation.
We are trying to decorate our room with educational material on all the walls of our classroom. In addition, we needed a staff that we could write on and be able to erase.
