Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The music room at our school services 450 students, in grades PreK- 5th. In music, we learn through singing, dancing, and use of various pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments. Every lesson involves moving our bodies and coming back together in our original places.

Our students represent about 41 different countries and 20 different languages.

We are a Tittle 1 school and have approximately 75% of students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch. The vast majority of our students live close by in the apartment complex and walk to school.

My Project

Our classroom is currently in need of a carpet that has individual squares for students to sit, as to ensure we can be serious learners on the floor where we do most of our learning.

Having this carpet will help my students visually organize their space for a better learning experience.

Not only would a rug maintain our focus, but it would provide students with individual spots to avoid conflict and help them develop a physical awareness of their bodies not only when we are sitting, but also when we are moving to music.

This will provide them with an individual spot in the music room. This rug would not only add comfort to our classroom learning environment, but help to bring our learning community together.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
