This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I am finishing up my first year at Mercer Middle School. My school has wonderful, excited, and creative students that have a love for music. Unfortunately, over 90% come from low-income families. This can hinder the development of future musicians.
My goal is over the years to build up an inventory of music and instruments. This project will focus on an everyday method books. These books will help students play the correct pitches and rhythms needed to develop as musicians.
Most students get these books when they rent their instrument. However, a large percentage of my students cannot afford to rent an instrument or buy books and other items needed for band. Often student will quit because they do not have the necessary supplies and are embarrassed to ask. Your donation will help many students participate in band.
