My Project

Last year, some of our freshmen gained confidence in reading Shakespeare by using Gareth Hinds's Romeo & Juliet. This year, we want to give that same confidence to all our sophomores.

Multimodal Macbeth, studied in Hinds's graphic novel, modern English, and the original text, will scaffold our students' understanding of this classic work.

Some teachers avoid Shakespeare with their regular English classes, but for sophomores, this is a mistake. In Ohio, sophomores take an End of Course test in English they have to pass. To pass it, oftentimes they have to read and understand older texts. Studying Macbeth in this way will give them the confidence to know they can unpack a classic text and be successful.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
