Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic and motivated first graders ready to learn each and every day. They walk into my classroom each day with a huge smile on their faces, knowing they are entering a place where they are safe and loved - which is my ultimate goal as a teacher.
Our Title I school receives 100% free breakfast and lunch and many take home food bags over the weekends.
Many students are ESOL and face hardships outside the classroom. Despite coming from a challenging background my students are incredibly loving, have a passion for learning, and deserve the very best.
My Project
Our school is located in an impoverished community where there is extremely limited exposure to the arts. Although students love art class in school, there are very few, if any, murals in their neighborhoods. With this in mind, we strive to provide students with everything they need and can imagine within our school. I believe that art education trains our country's youth to become productive, contributing and creative members of society. This 'All for One and One for all' dream project will include having students brainstorming why we must take responsibility for caring for our multi-cultural, diversity and inclusion. Next, they will collaborate with the renowned Joe McKinney, who is the most highly sought after muralist in the state of South Carolina, to bring the multi-cultural, diversity and inclusion murals to life.
The integration of multi-cultural, diversity and inclusion has never looked sweeter!
This collaboration will make our students aware of their responsibility to cherish and preserve the World around them. Our students will also embrace a new found pride in their own capabilities as artists.
