The students I teach have obstacles that they have to overcome. First, many come from very low-income families.
We also have some that experience being homeless from time to time.
The majority of students in my class and school qualify for free or reduced-priced lunches.
Second, my students all have IEPs. Most have learning disabilities in math, reading, and writing, while a few others have emotional needs and some have other health impairments.
They struggle daily with the curriculum that is being taught, even with modifications.
My Project
My students often come to school having eaten very little at home. Although we offer free breakfast and lunch, many kids get to school late and so breakfast is over. Having snacks available has been very beneficial to many kids throughout my school building. This project would continue to allow me to have snacks on hand not only for my students but also having some available in the offices for other students. Sometimes the kids that have first lunch at 10:25 in the morning become hungry by the end of the day. Being able to give a small little snack to get them through the last class or two has been such a great support for them.
