Multiplication Masters: A Special Project for My 3rd Graders!
Help me give my students more multiplication practice with these math activities and & championship belts. The championship belts will be used in math battles to improve fluency.
I am a third-grade teacher. I have a wonderful group of students! They are constantly impressing me with their hard-working attitudes, amazing work ethic, and overall positive outlook on life. I am so proud to be their teacher. They deserve the best education possible.
I teach at a rural, Title I school serving approximately three hundred students.
Every child receives free breakfast and lunch. We are located near a large military base and, as a result, serve children of active duty and retired military. Our school serves students from many socioeconomic backgrounds including homeless students, who at times may live with family friends or other relatives.
Our students are bright and eager to learn new things. They are hard workers and strive to make their world a better place.
My Project
This project is important to me, in order to help the students learn their multiplication facts in a more meaningful way. Through the support of this project, it will also help stress the importance of learning the facts. If the students don't learn their multiplication, this will lead to more struggling down the road in other grades. What they learn in third grade with multiplication fluency among other topics, will be a building block for other areas in future grades. This project includes "visual aids" for math- A "24 math game" to work on all 4 operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide), as well a fact family dry erase product. These items will be used in centers and for individual practice and review.
This project will help encourage the learning of multiplication through visual aids and "fun" incentives such as my personal favorites, the championship belts.
The WWE belts have a "W" on them, but for this purpose, they will be worn upside down so it will be seen as an M. Once students learn all of their 12 multiplication tables fluently, they will be able to participate in a math battle. They will be seen as "masters" in multiplication. The belts will be worn in the battles, as well as weekly for the students who have earned the right to wear them. Thank you for your support of this project.
