I am the lucky teacher of 16 amazing third graders. My classroom is home to students with a variety of educational and personal needs. My students are interested in completing projects that are hands-on, engaging, and challenging. Every child in my classroom strives to exceed their yearly goals and I am so lucky to have such a great group of children that are excited to learn. My students advance when implementing their interests into lessons. They love to learn multiplication but they also love when lessons provide real-world applications.
Before this pandemic, students are placed in four different groups: teacher-led, computer-based, group hands-on, and independent practice.
With the use of more center materials, students will be able to apply their knowledge with hands-on activities that incorporate the Ohio Common Core State Standards.
My Project
Multiplication is one of the most important focus areas taught in third grade. Multiplication is a fundamental skill that enables my students to succeed in what can often be considered an intimidating subject. As students move forward to other grades, multiplication facts are necessary to succeed. Throughout the school year, students gain a conceptual understanding of multiplication by comprehending the "why" and "how" the times tables are complete, rather than just "what the answer is." By completing those strategies at the beginning of the year, will help us during Multiplication Madness in March. This deeper thinking process allows for meaningful application. This will enable them to implement the skill in other aspects of their learning successfully.
