Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have beautiful new books, thanks to you!
Our 3-room continuation high classroom recently received some wonderful books to replace old and non-relevant reading materials in my English and technology classroom. We were able to create a new multicultural mini-library which has changed the way my kids approach our reading time. They can't wait!
Currently, the whole room is a mish-mash mess with the classroom library books contained in metal garage-style shelving which is rusty and the wrong size to hold our new materials. Picture the school portable 30 years ago, having never changed! We've all been there, but it affects student morale and productivity!
With a proper shelf system, I will be able to secure the books, which are very enticing to my students. The whole aspect of respecting school materials, keeping things in order, and being responsible for items is all a huge part of the reading and maturing experience. I am teaching value on so many levels, by trying to make their environment better than they have been experiencing. It makes them know they are important, and gives a feeling of security in our very troublesome neighborhood where they need support to stay on track, just like all teens need.
I truly believe this extra thought is working to help motivate and inspire the students, and that makes them produce more work. It is a wonderful process to watch unfold!
This proposal is the first one where I am trying to find a way to organize and update the class environment, to match the materials we are finally introducing and utilizing in the classroom!
