Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hello! I have a total of 36 bilingual students that come from diverse countries and backgrounds. They are mostly first or second-generation immigrant students from Central America and a few from Asian or African nations. Most of my students are from low-income households and lack books and technology in their homes.

They are wonderful students who have a strong work ethic and are dedicated to academic achievement and have great hopes for the future.

They are humble, kind-hearted, and grateful children whom I feel blessed that I can guide and teach this year! Please support their learning! Thank you so much in advance.

My Project

My students need to learn and celebrate a wide range of diverse peoples, histories, and places. In our classes, we try and celebrate a different group of people each month, from Hispanic Americans in the fall to African Americans in February to Asian Americans and women leaders in the spring. I am requesting books that will help enhance our classroom library and be on display as we move from month to month and from unit to unit. Students will be able to read these new selections during independent reading and stations time. I may also use these books to read aloud throughout different units of study.

Furthermore, these requested books are mostly non-fiction books, which will help expand the literature that students read and make students more open-minded global citizens.

Since most students gravitate towards fictional books, I constantly need to encourage students to read non-fiction literature so that they can learn more about the world they live in. These multicultural books will help provide students with an understanding that each culture has a unique set of perspectives and each culture contributes to the world's diversity.
