Multicultural Library Representation for Inspiration!

Help me give my students more multicultural books that will expose them to authors of their own culture, as well as characters that represent their own experiences!

My Project

I teach 8th grade ELA in a small southern town of Hartwell, Georgia. If you were to walk inside of my classroom, you would primarily see a FAMILY of Caucasian, African-American, and Hispanic students (as of current). This is only my 2nd year teaching, so I have been building up my supplies and resources - including my classroom library! I would love to have more multicultural representation in my library so that my students have characters just like them in the books that they read, as well as have inspiration from the authors that they are exposed to!

I would love for my students to be inspired by, and be impacted by these multicultural authors and stories.

I want them to have healthy role models, and have the opportunity to admire literacy from people of their own cultures (and each others).

I want my students to be able to connect to characters that have similar experiences as them, and learn about other cultures. It is also in my hopes that if students can understand their differences, they can appreciate each other on a different level; with more love and less assumption/confusion on what they don't know. Differences aren't barriers, they make us stronger!
