Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students at our School are diverse in all aspects. We have students from all over the world that speak many different languages that are embraced within the school. Many of the countries that students come from include the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Cambodia, Libya, Venezuela, and Vietnam, just to name a few. Although Spanish is the most common first language in our school, many students also speak Cambodian, Swahili, Arabic, and Vietnamese.
Our school is in the beautiful city of Providence and our students, staff, and community are highly cultured and eager to embrace these unique differences amongst each other.
Since our students come from so many diverse backgrounds, their interests are also diverse. Many of our students like music, art, math, and reading. Additionally, our students like unique foods, share many eclectic musical styles and even preserve their own cultural dance traditions.
My Project
The focus of this project is to bring students, faculty and the community together in a multicultural night. The event will be happening in Winter and will inspire creativity, love, and respect for many of the different cultures that our school represents.
Arts and crafts materials are needed for this event to promote learning about different cultures that are represented within our school community.
Hands-on arts and craft activities are great ways for students to learn about different cultures first hand and thus gain a deeper cultural and ethnic background. When students are exposed to different cultures, especially the artistic aspects of a culture, respect, and love are fostered within that process.
Although the arts and crafts aspect of our multi-cultural night is only one part of the event, it will be the part of the event that most likely connects the students' and families' unique cultural backgrounds to the school, which will in turn foster a greater school-home relationship.
