Can you imagine moving to a new city or state? What about moving to a whole new country? Not to mention, the possibility of having no formal education and limited English proficiency. This is the case for many of my students. Nonetheless, the students I work with are absolutely amazing! I teach at a Title l elementary school in Kansas and solely work with small groups of English Language Learners.
My students are hard-working and so much fun to be around.
Because English is their second language, reading can become challenging and intimidating when reading with peers. When given opportunities and great instruction, I know my students are capable of anything!
My Project
Many of my students do not have access to literature at home. This is why it’s incredibly important that we have a library with interesting and relevant books that peak their interest. Having access to books about different cultures is so important.
Having books for our library will provide opportunities for my students to become life-long learners and instill of love of reading.
My students really enjoy independent reading time because it gives them a chance to learn more about topics they enjoy and are curious about.
Students will be able to have access to the library and choose from a wide range of books. I want to lead by example and show the importance of a classroom library.
