Multicultural Art Supplies!

My students need 30 sets of multicultural colored pencils, a classpack of markers, and eight pints of paints, plus 200 craft stems to use in creative work.

This project expired on December 9, 2015.

My Students

Creating art is such a powerful way to express oneself, and my goal for my classroom this year is to have dynamic art supplies that allow students to represent what they see and feel by having a spectrum of colors available to them to do exactly that.

My dad used to wake me up and say "Today is the first day of the rest of your life!" Kindergarten is very much so that; it is a child's introduction to schooling, and with consideration and a little hope, their introduction to a lifetime love for learning and exploring.

My kindergartners will come from an array of backgrounds; some will have participated in preschool and others will be in school for the first time. Our school is a beautiful and supportive place, however due to living in a low-income area, supplies are often difficult to come by.

My Project

My students need 30 sets of multicultural colored pencils, a classpack of markers and eight pints of paints plus 200 craft stems to use in creative work. My students will have ample time to be introduced to and practice many forms of art this year, although I'm mostly going to focus on using colored pencils, markers, construction paper projects and painting projects. I would like my students to have access to multicultural colored materials in order to best represent a broader spectrum of color, honor ourselves and others in our world, and to pair these art projects with other lessons on respect, humanity and the appreciation of similarities and differences in people. I believe there is power in being able to represent what we see and feel. I also believe these supplies will allow students to value themselves and others for what makes them unique. My goal is to have these supplies available to students and use them as a catalyst into meaningful learning about people.

I am excited for the opportunity to have materials in my classroom that allow students to actually draw and create what they see.

I want to talk about the differences in people's features; I want this conversation and learning to create positive relations among the students in my classroom and beyond. I want each and every one of my students to take pride in who they are and recognize they are represented in my classroom, even down to materials available to them.
