Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 25 eager first-grade students who enjoy learning how to read, write, and do math. Our awesome school is located in Southern California. We need basic art supplies, and social studies curriculum to learn about tolerance, diversity, civil rights, and cultures from around the world.

My students range from gifted and talented to below grade level.

We are proud to be a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence and have won many prestigious awards. Since we are not a Title I school, funding extra projects is very difficult!

My Project

Students will be returning to school in January, and I want my students to learn about different cultures around the world, diversity, and tolerance. I also want my students to learn about people who have advanced racial equality, such as Martin Luther King Jr, Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, and Cesar Chavez.

The Teacher's Pay Teacher's gift card will be used to purchase art and Social Studies units, biographies, shutter books (books with several pockets and flaps that contain art work, writing, diagrams, reading passages, and pictures about a person or subject).

The gift card will be used to purchase multicultural art projects, reader's theaters and plays about civil rights leaders. Additionally, I will use the gift card to purchase social studies curriculum that include craftivities and writing assignments about diversity and inclusion.

Art is a great way to explore diversity, especially when learning about different cultures. Students will use a variety of art supplies to make Indian necklaces, headbands, shutter books about famous Americans that fought for Civil Rights, and props to be used in their plays. Thank you for considering our diversity project!
