it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school motivated and enthusiastic to learn. They come from diverse backgrounds and predominately low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of my students have learning challenges but they do not let that slow their desire to learn.
COVID-19 has presented many challenges for our families and I want to make sure I am providing the most effective instruction based that is supported by current research.
All students have the right to learn and feel successful and empowered at school. Many of my students are resistant to math and do not feel confident in themselves as mathematicians. It is my job to individualize their learning experiences using research-based approaches that that will help them to feel successful and grow as mathematicians.
My Project
"Multi-sensory Math 3 Day Workshop" is a professional development course for teachers who are looking to bring an Orton Gillingham based approach to their math lessons. Research shows that many students with special needs benefit from a multi-sensory approach to learning, particularly when struggling with basic math concepts.
This course demonstrates proven ways to engage learners with concrete materials to help solidify foundational math skills and bring abstract concepts to life.
This multi-sensory math approach provides over 30 hours of demonstrations and explanations to support struggling students in mathematics. One of the greatest benefits is the strategies and methods can be integrated into any math class regardless of the curriculum.
