My students are adventurous and rugged, just like the breath-taking topography where we are located between Mount Saint Helens and Mount Rainier. They reflect Washington ideals like individuality, courage, and creativity at their finest! I would definitely describe the students I plan to reach with this project as those who are still passionate about learning and love a challenge. They embody what is good about our great nation!
My students all work at their own pace, some who finish quicker than others would really benefit from the opportunity to enrich their minds with the STEM activities in my project.
I have already purchased one stem kit like the ones in my cart with my own money. Today was the first day we gave them a shot and I had one especially challenging student tell me he loved school and didn't want to leave for the day after he completed his first kit. This is a student who routinely doesn't make it through the entire class period without blowing-up, cursing and leaving class without permission.
Post Covid is rough on us teachers as far as behavior. This first glimpse into the wonders of STEM allowed my students to have that glimmer in their eyes and passion for learning. For the first time the entire semester my students were on-task and working the entire period thanks to the creativity and problem solving the stem projects unlocked.
