This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am entering my third year as a Kindergarten teacher in the Bronx. I am one of two Kindergarten classes in the school. I look forward to coming in every morning and see not only what I can teach my kids but what they can teach me. I am constantly looking for ways to improve myself and my classroom to benefit my kids.

My students are always so eager to learn more and more.

They come into my classroom with little to no oral language. They want to learn everything I can teach them and more. They are extremely curious about the world and always asking questions. We work on building independence in my classroom. One way is by giving students choices in their learning. They grow up so much in a year, I just want to help them grow even more.

My Project

In my classroom I work building independence with my children. One way to build independence is by giving students choices in their learning. I want my students to have choices in how they learning and working in my classroom. This is why my project is flexible seating. One of the things with flexible seating is choice in where to sit and where to work.

When students have choice, they feel empowered in their learning.

This will allow the students in my classroom to have some choice in where they work. The students will also feel more comfortable while they are learning; you cannot learn if you are uncomfortable. I am hoping to give my students the opportunity to increase their learning they way they want to learn.
