My Students

I am lucky enough to work with music students. My students are passionate about instrumental music and have an incredible drive to learn, even in these trying times. They work hard, practice hard, and are proud to be a part of a large band family.

The students that make up our band family are a reflection of our town's diversity.

There are 67 languages spoken in SPS, and over 52% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

While the pandemic has harmed our school band family in many ways, it has also provided time for me as an educator to reflect on what will best help my students. Our band room is tiered, so sometimes it is hard for students in the back row to see me conducting. Likewise, it is always hard for my percussionists to see me when we are on our auditorium stage.

This conductor's system will help me and my colleagues get a boost when we are conducting so that our students will be able to see us and therefore read a clearer conducting pattern during practices and performances.
