Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title I school, we are settled in a neighborhood where education of the utmost importance. Many of my students are many grade levels below in reading. They absolutely hate to read, mostly because they have never connected emotionally with a book.
My students have not discovered the amazing world that reading can bring you to.
I try to keep my classroom library up to date with new series and books that can bring to places all over the world.
My Project
Many of my students do not have books at home and due to financial disadvantages, many cannot go to a public library to check out books. My students have never really seen books as being important. They do not have role models in their lives that inspire them to read or show them the worlds that reading can bring you to. In my classroom, we need many books that show kids that are similar to them in other parts of the world or kids that live in very different cultures than they do.
Many students in my school have never read a book that they loved.
It is my goal to help my students to find one book that they thoroughly enjoyed and hopefully find a series they want to finish. Some of these books will be used as a class or small group novel study.
