Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are outgoing, loving, and brilliant little individuals with eager minds curious to learn about the world around them. What sets them apart is their ability to be so resilient and hard working.
Located on the edge of Oak Cliff, our school serves 98% of students who come from historically marginalized communities-- the majority African American and LatinX-- 100% of them receive free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
If you ever have the pleasure of meeting them, they'll welcome you into their lives with no hesitation. They love to move, giggle, and be silly, and most importantly, they love to learn.
My Project
Our class utilizes headphones in many instances. In our "listen to reading" center, students need headphones to fully concentrate on the words being told to increase their language fluency and listening comprehension. We also use our school's laptops to work on I-station where students are able to work more on comprehension, practice vocabulary, and much more. The headphones will help to block out outside distractions so that students are able to focus on their work as best as possible.
With little success in the past, I've been able to supply student's with dollar-store headphones however, they usually don't last more than 3 months before giving out, not comfortably fitting the kid's ears, and not blocking outside distractions.
Our classroom rug will be used for a number of things especially whole group lessons! This year, our class size will be doubling and it's important that we have a space for all students to comfortably sit together.
