Hello Everyone! My name is Chelsea, and I teach in a substantially separate classroom for grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade. A substantially separate classroom is essentially a self-contained room outside of the general education classroom. My students all have academic, social, and behavioral needs that require a highly modified curriculum, smaller class sizes, and greater behavioral supports. I currently have 14 students in my class, who range from having Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, ODD, ADHD, and a range of other diagnoses. I require a high number of staff to be in my room in order to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment for all.
In my classroom, we focus heavily on building social and behavioral skills; for this reason, we require many additional resources that general education classrooms do not need.
I will use the funds to buy items that will help students come together and learn, such as a rug for circle time and groups, books, and classroom toys and manipulatives to increase learning. Any donation helps, and thank you so much for your consideration!
My Project
A new rug would help my students grow their sense of community. The books will help improve my students' social skills. The resources will help my classroom be more organized and help our centers run smoothly.
The rug is the heart of my classroom.
We start our day on the rug greeting one another, having morning meeting, reviewing the calendar, expressing how we are feeling that day. We read on the rug. We do yoga and adapted physical education on the rug. We have free time, and we have centers on the rug. These resources would help the overall function of my classroom and build a warm environment for my students.
