My classes are special due to the level of respect and rapport. I make sure to know how the social life of our students affects their academic life.
From the latest Star Wars movie to their time on the mile in PE, I make sure to know at least one personal or social fact about my student's.
These kids love to smile, talk about basketball, and learn about technology. This really does help to teach all levels and types of students.
My Project
I will travel to India. I will volunteer my time with children at an orphanage that needs to learn basic academic skills. I will teach them the alphabet. I will teach them their colors and shapes. I will be among other volunteers and sharing a dorm room. The funds will pay for my 3 meals a day, and part of my transportation. Transportation includes a flight and the short rides from our dorm to the orphanage.
I will learn a new language that will help bring diversity to my classroom.
I will learn how to better communicate with English language learners. I will learn how to teach students that have emotional skills that are lacking the knowledge of the family. I will get to teach them how to bond with people that are from a different culture.
After developing my skills for the month of July volunteering, I hope to apply all lessons to my class.
