This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am so luck to have an amazing group of students because I teach all of the students in our building. I am blessed with a lot hugs and smiles every day. But that doesn't come at a cost; we also have our issues with behavior too. Having students in grades PK - 8 in one building, is very interesting. We have beautiful students in every grade, but because we have redistricted this year, we have a community of learners, neighbors, friends, and relatives who have their own issues at times.
My students need to be supported and loved every single day because we don't know what their life is like outside of our doors.
I work with students who live in a failing inner city school that is currently being restructured. But these changes are helping the students be more independent, more confident, and much better learners by teaching them the social and emotional skills they need.
My Project
In week 4 of school, I am finally getting my own classroom. I have been traveling and teaching by cart every day. The basis of this project is to create an environment that I believe will be beneficial to all of the students I work with.
I am purchasing these products to create a seating arrangement that is more fitting for each student.
The different types of seating like the circle chairs and beanbags, give the classroom a relaxed vibe and a comfortable seat for students to use. The rug have overstuffed pillows and back support for reading. The lamps will make the environment have more of a homey feel and help the students eyes focus on the computer screens. The teacher chair will be used for the older students as a seating option but also as a reading chair for guest readers, the teacher, or other reading activities.
