Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When Hurricane Katrina attacked, this was one of the many questions my fifth grade students asked. Hurricane Katrina became the hot topic in class. As my students became more involved and interested, they wanted to know what they could do to help so we brainstormed ideas.
Being from a low-income school, my students can only provide so much. As a result, my fifth grade class decided to assist in donating what they could to our school's relief project. They also wrote letters and drew pictures for the families and children of Hurricane Katrina to provide loving and caring words. Now, as many families are being relocated to different cities, especially in the Bay Area, and their children are being enrolled in unfamiliar territory, my fifth grade class requests your assistance to help these children to feel welcomed and prepared for the adventure put in front of them.
We are asking for funding for pencils, color pencils, color markers, notebooks, rulers, scissors, and pencil boxes to provide hope during this time of sorrow. This donation will not only warm the hearts of the 33 students in my fifth grade class to know that they played a part in this donation, but especially to the unsuspecting childen who receive this thoughtful gift.
