My Students

Brass Community School is located in Kenosha Wisconsin where it is nestled inside a neighborhood where families help, support, and protect each other. The students from this neighborhood primarily walk to our Title One School each day and almost 95% of the students receive free and reduced-priced breakfasts and lunches.

My students need a comfortable rug to sit on with defined spaces to keep them engaged in their learning.

Our class will use the "Lakeshore Learning Carpet - Flex-Space A Space for Everyone Carpet" as a meeting place for our: story time, morning class council meetings, interactive lessons at the Panel, learning games, and overall daily instruction in all academic areas. Our carpet time is where we will build our sense of community as we learn and grow together.

My Project

We begin each day at the carpet during our morning class council meeting. Students have an opportunity to share life news, achievements, celebrations, and it is the foundation for building strong relationships. It is during this time that I get to know the students more deeply and witness the students becoming more of a family each day.

Having a carpet for students to sit on near the Panel, which is the focal point of the main instruction taking place within the classroom, will encourage more student engagement.

This space is meant to encourage partner, whole group and small group interactions. Students will be able to share and demonstrate their thinking while being able to have their own defined space on the carpet. The Lakeshore Learning Carpet will help create this kind of atmosphere where students feel they are part of a community and where the greatest amount of learning can occur.
