This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am setting up a crafting space in my classroom for my students. I want to have a comfortable space where students can listen to lectures or read their textbooks while keeping their hands busy with knitting and crocheting tools. I teach mostly highschool juniors and seniors and they often carry a lot of stress and anxiety. Having a release for that energy can be extremely beneficial and support their learning process.

To make my crafting corner engaging, I would like to add colorful storage, comfy seating options, and a variety of pattern books and tools so that students have a wide variety of activities to choose from.

I will also be setting up large storage bags for the finished products. My intent is that students who want to use the classroom yarn and supplies can make clothing and toy items that can then be donated to local charity organizations. Students who would like to make something for themselves or as a gift would supply their own yarn, but would otherwise be able to use the classroom equipment to work on and store their project.
